A Week In My Life

I thought I'd give you all a peek into a typical week for me here in Haiti. I was kinda of under the impression that my schedule would look a lot less hectic and tied down once I got here, but as you'll be able to see, I was wrong, lol...

Every school day:
-In my classroom around 6:45/7am
-Staff devos at 7:30am
-School 8:00-2:00
-Lunch with all the staff at 2:00pm
-Head back to my class to get things ready for the next day
-Make and eat dinner with Katie
-Then usually some more planning and/or grading (typically along with a movie or episode of TV we have on DVD with my roomie Katie)

In addition to the everyday routine, Mondays:
-10th grade girls discipleship group after school.

Tuesdays:
-Creole lessons after school

Wednesdays:
-Bible study with some ladies here at 4:30pm
-Meet up at Jerry's (local hotel) with Katie, Megan, Tara, and our two Haitian friends Merlande and Elos to talk about God and life at 6:00pm
The Wednesday night ladies- Merlande, Katie, Elose, Megan, & Tara! (This was at Megan & Tara's)

Thursdays:
-Female missionary Bible study (all the Sonlight ladies as well as Christi and Angie, two other local missionaries) after school
-Occasionally attend House of Moses community Bible study in the evening
With some other missionary ladies! Including Angie (far left), Tammy (far right), and Christi (middle) who don't work with Sonlight, but are in our town.

Fridays:
-Discipleship time with one of the local missionary's daughters, Caroline at 3:30pm
-Hang out at the Bridges for dinner and tv. Lately we've been watching all the seasons of Downtown Abbey! 6:30pm

Saturdays:
-Sleep in!
-Free day to lesson plan, plan Sunday School, go for walks, visit the market, go to the beach, take some trips around town, visit some other organizations/orphanages, read, veg out and watch movies, etc
On a hike up the mountain!

Sundays:
-Sleep in a little!
-Help teach Sunday School at 9:00am
-"Haitian Church" at 10:00am
-Lesson plan/prepare for the school week
-"Missionary Church" at 5:00pm
-Staff dessert and hang out time at 6:00pm
Worship time at Sunday School!

Then sprinkle in some randoms like hanging out with Benjy or other kiddos from the community, chats with other missionaries, going to Sonlight basketball games, visiting students' homes, going out to do activities with short-term groups, going down to the little "shops" on our street to buy food staples or get Haitian food for dinner, doing my creole homework, etc.

Whew! I'm a little bit exhausted just typing all that out! Everything I've been doing has been great though, and it's not as hectic as it may seem -or that it would be in the U.S.- I think because most things I do and people I see are within a block or two from my apartment. Cutting out DC traffic helps a lot! :)

You can of course be praying for my strength and energy though! It's been a bit difficult to get back in the swing of things after 3 weeks off. Everyone has been exhausted this past week or so that we've been back, and I have not been immune!

Missing you guys back home (but totally enjoying the 85° weather here)!
